Thanks to guest blogger Joan Peloso for her great post on working with a potential Applicant who has had separation from baby. If you missed it, you can read it here: http://www.lllflorida.com/lalecheleague/sponsoring-leader-support/when-youre-unsure-if-a-mother-meets-the-mothering-experience-prerequisite/
Fall is here, and the humidity is going down a little. It’s a time for new beginnings, especially for me. Having finished my chemo for breast cancer, I’m beginning life as a cancer survivor. My prognosis is good, and I am excited to talk to my own LLL Group co-Leaders and see if there are any potential Applicants we should be talking to. I enjoyed the article in the October Issue of Leader Today titled: Help! Our Group Needs an Applicant. If you missed it be sure to check it out.
Our topic today is the nuts and bolts of what to do once you have found a potential Applicant and completed the pre-application dialogue process (see previous blogposts). Hip, hip, hooray! Now it is time to actually have the Applicant fill out an Application for Leadership and for you to fill out the Leader Recommendation Form. If several Leaders have been working with the Applicant, each Leader is invited to fill out a recommendation form, but only one form is necessary. If you have been the one primarily working with the candidate, make sure to consult with the other Leaders before you complete the pre-application dialogue to make sure they have no unanswered questions before you proceed to actually recommending the candidate.
To find the forms and payment details, go here:
The information about fees and how to pay online will come from the Coordinator of Leader Accreditation (CLA) Christine Thompson. Christine’s contact information can be found near the top of the page. The application fee is only $15 and some scholarship monies are available from the Area to help, if needed. The application fee can be paid by check or PayPal and information is located here: bit.ly/LeadershipApplicationFee. Directions for downloading a free copy of the Leader’s Handbook will come once Christine has activated the application.
You can fill out the Leader Recommendation form online here: http://www.lllflorida.com/lalecheleague/leaders/leader-accreditation-department/leader-recommendation-form/
The Applicant can fill out the Application for Leadership online here: http://www.lllflorida.com/lalecheleague/application-for-lll-leadership/
What happens next? The CLA looks over the application materials and makes sure there are no questions about the potential Applicant meeting the prerequisites to applying for leadership. When the application has been activated, the CLA will send the new Applicant a welcome letter and assigns her to a LAD representative. The LAD representative will contact the Applicant and all the Leaders in the Group. They will work together through the application until accreditation. Application work will include the personal history, the Breastfeeding Resource Guide, and more. At the time of accreditation, the Applicant will pay an Accreditation Fee of $40 (information is found on the same page I linked to before). Instructions on how to do so will be provided at the time of accreditation.
Next time, we will discuss Working as a Triad: The Applicant, the LAD Representative and You, the Sponsoring Leader.
‘Til next time,
Sponsoring Leader Mentor
